Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy landed the chain in hot water… err, hot oil when he mentioned that he endorsed the Bible definition of family and was not a supporter of gay marriage. Chick-fil-A, with 1600 outlets across the United States, closes on Sundays in support of Biblical principles of not working on Sunday. As same-sex marriage and gay rights supporters assaulted the firm with public denouncements and the like, former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee rallied supporters of the chain with a public display of support. National Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day was a rousing success, drawing tens of thousands of people to Chick-fil-A outlets.
Throughout the country, traffic lanes were clogged and mall thru-ways were stuffed with people waiting in line for their chicken sandwiches. In my home town, our Chick-fil-A locations had waits of two hours or more, and traffic was backed up for some locations for miles. In response to Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, gay rights supporters plan a National Same-Sex Kiss Day outside Chick-fil-A locations on Friday.
