Tony Sly performing with No Use For A Name

Of the many punk bands I’ve seen, one of my favorite performances of all time was when I saw the band No Use For A Name on the Warped Tour back in 2002, when the Warped Tour was good and full of actual punk bands and not whatever tours on the Warped Tour now.  It was a huge day of music, with a lot of my favorite bands playing–NUFAN, Lagwagon, Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, Bouncing Souls, and the like–but Tony Sly and NUFAN were just on point that day and gave a brilliant performance.  Sadly, I won’t be able to see that band play again.  Tony Sly, lead singer and frontman of No Use For A Name has died at age 41.  No cause of death was announced.

“It is with great sorrow that we must say goodbye to Tony Sly of No Use For A Name,” wrote “Fat Mike” Burkett of the band NOFX, who runs NUFAN’s record label Fat Wreck Chords.  “We received a call earlier today of his passing, and are devastated.  We have lost an incredible talent, friend, and father – one of the true greats.  One of my dearest friends and favorite song writers has gone way too soon. Tony, you will be greatly missed.”
