Say what you want to about director and writer Joss Whedon, but the creator of Buffy The Vampire Slayer apparently knows his way around a comic book blockbuster. Whedon, who wrote and directed the wildly successful billion-dollar Marvel tentpole The Avengers has been slightly ambivalent about returning, but apparently money talks and the chance to revisit one of the most successful movies of all time was too much for Joss Whedon to resist. But that’s not all he’s got on his plate. Not only will Joss Whedon be back for The Avengers 2, he’ll also help develop the Avengers TV series Marvel is working on with ABC Television.
“Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015,” said a press release issued by Marvel parent company Disney. “As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel’s The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.”
Whedon’s contributions to the Marvel-verse won’t be the only movies coming up for Marvel. In 2013, Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 and Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World will be coming up; Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be coming up in 2014. Somewhere in there will be Whedon’s Avengers-themed television series, and after that? Avengers 2! Whedon will write and direct Avengers 2, as well as contribute to the Avengers TV series and add material to the other Marvel-verse movies.
