The die is cast; Paul Ryan is a potential Vice President.
It seems like the race for President takes forever, doesn’t it? Since declaring for President over a year ago, Mitt Romney has had to survive a very tough primary season, months of national scrutiny, and now all he’s got to do is run the race of his life to knock off the guy who is currently sitting president. Easy, right? To that end, Romney needs a great potential Vice President, because he’s not Obama popular enough to make up for a Joe Biden’s incompetence. Hence, the former Governor of Massachusetts has tapped a member of the House of Representatives as his running mate. Mitt Romney has chosen Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan as his vice president. Fittingly, Romney announced his pick this morning on the deck of the USS Wisconsin.
So who is Paul Ryan? Well, he’s the chairman of the House Budget Committee, and the guy who came up with the idea to turn Medicare into a series of payments directly to seniors to allow them to buy their own insurance. A political lifer, Ryan won his seat when he was just 28 years old and is a career politician. He’s also a celebrated author and thinker in the conservative community, which means he appeals to a base that Romney cannot reach. In short, he’s both everything Romney needs and everything he doesn’t.
