Taylor Swift’s new album, Red, isn’t due out until October, but that isn’t stopping the honey-haired country crooner from getting a jump on sales early. Swift, perhaps most famous for being the victim of a Kanye West interruption and her many Grammy wins, has a knack for turning heartbreak into hits. Her latest single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” is no exception. The song has been out two days and has already entered the top 40 charts. According to Billboard, Taylor Swift’s new single in on track to break Lady Gaga’s digital sales record for a debut week.
Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” sold a staggering 448,000 downloads in its debut week, and Taylor Swift is poised to break 500,000 downloads in the same amount of time. An hour after the song was released, it was the most-downloaded song on iTunes in the US. The song has since gone to the top of the charts in 26 countries around the world, not counting the US. Billboard has also said that Taylor Swift’s song is a top-40 hit, soaring to radio success in less time than it took me to write this post.
