Lois Ann “Lolo” Goodman had flown into New York City to officiate the US Open, tennis edition, in nearby Flushing Meadow. She’s done this for quite some time, being a full-time professional tennis referee, and she had the gear to prove it. In fact, that’s what she was wearing when authorities arrested her at her hotel in Manhattan. Turns out, US Open referee Lolo Goodman is suspected of killing her husband in Los Angeles.
The weirdest part of the Lois Goodman case isn’t that she was arrested while in New York City to be a referee at the United States Open tennis tournament, it’s her murder weapon. According to the charges filed in Los Angeles court, Goodman is accused of using a coffee cup as a murder weapon. I guess she really wanted that 10-shot espresso drink and, rather than killing while in a caffeine high, killed in a caffeine crash. Talk about a weird story all the way around.
How often does a professional tennis referee get arrested for beating her husband to death with a coffee mug? How often does a professional tennis referee get arrested after coming into town to work? How often do you even see a professional tennis referee outside of a professional tennis tournament for ANY reason?
