Someone alert the Darwin Awards: the competition is over and we have a winner for 2012. No matter what else might happen this year, I think this is a strong candidate for dumbest criminal of the year. Prankster Randy Lee Tenley, 44, was walking through the southbound lane of US Highway 93 in Kalispell, Montana, while wearing a ghillie suit. (A ghillie suit is a camouflage outfit decorated with bits of bush and leaves in an attempt to make the user extra hard to see.) Apparently, Randy Lee Tenley was trying to create a fake Bigfoot sighting and got run over for his troubles.
“He was trying to make people think he was Sasquatch so people would call in a Sasquatch sighting. You can’t make it up. I haven’t seen or heard of anything like this before. Obviously, his suit made it difficult for people to see him,” said Trooper Jim Schneider of the Montana Highway Patrol.
Tenley was hit by a 15-year-old girl while cavorting in the highway; he was then run over by a 17-year-old girl after being struck by the initial car. Unsurprisingly, the girls claim they couldn’t see him and thus couldn’t stop in time to avoid making Fake Sasquatch into real roadkill.
