At 2 AM on Sunday morning, the Lowes Vanderbilt Hotel had to be evacuated because the fire alarm went off, but the culprit wasn’t actually a fire, simply a flying tomato. Specifically, “The Flying Tomato” Shaun White. The 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics medalists and multiple-times X-Games medalist apparently had a little too much to drink while staying at the hotel and thought it was a good idea to pull the fire alarm. White attempted to flee from the hotel in a cab, but he was stopped by a good Samaritan citizen, who stopped the cab by talking to the driver and telling him that calling the police might be necessary. Facing possible arrest, a drunk and disorderly Shaun White led a bystander on a chase through downtown Nashville before being captured and detained by police.
“When White overheard their conversation, he allegedly kicked the citizen and fled on foot,” said a statement issued by Metropolitain Nashville Police Department. “The citizen reported that he chased White until White turned and ran into him, apparently causing White to fall backwards and strike his head against a fence. “Responding officers Sunday reported that White appeared to be extremely intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol.”
The citizen didn’t want to press charges against White for assault; meanwhile, at the time of his arrest, White did not sign the misdemeanor citations presented to him. White was released from the hospital on Monday morning on his own recognizance
