When it comes to secret agents, the biggest singer in the world isn’t really the sort of person who could fit that description. However, when that singer is Adele Adkins, you might want to think again. After all, she hid her pregnancy and even managed to get married in secret, which is pretty impressive with the hordes of photographers following her every move. However, there was one secret even Adele and James Bond together couldn’t keep: Adele will be singing the theme song for the newest James Bond movie. The title track to Skyfall will be debuting on October 5, the 50th anniversary of Dr. No and James Bond Day.
“I was a little hesitant at first to be involved with the theme song for Skyfall,” admitted Adele, who wrote the song with frequent collaborator Paul Epworth. “There’s a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song. But I fell in love with the script and Paul had some great ideas for the track and it ended up being a bit of a no-brainer to do it. … I’ll be back combing my hair when I’m 60, telling people I was a Bond girl back in the day!”
The 23rd Bond adventure, Skyfall will be directed by American Beauty helmsman Sam Mendes from a script by frequent Bond scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, as well as Gladiator writer John Logan. Daniel Craig will once again be the star attraction and Popsicle model. All in all, it seems like a pretty good set-up for a movie that wasn’t even supposed to happen due to money problems.
Fittingly, “Skyfall” will debut on Adele’s website on Friday at 0:07 British Standard Time, or 7:07 PM Eastern Time on Thursday.
