It’s kind of a big year for Seth MacFarlane. First, his three television shows–Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show–are still going strong and anchoring the Fox Network. His feature film debut as a writer/director/star, the talking bear comedy Ted, grossed an appropriate $420 million dollars worldwide. He hosted Saturday Night Live, too. Now, he’s taking on another hosting gig. Seth MacFarlane will be the host of the 85th annual Academy Awards.
Calling the hosting gig, “an overwhelming privilege,” MacFarlane added, “My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.”
MacFarlane was tapped by first-time producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron to host the 2013 edition of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards ceremony, which honors the best and brightest in the entertainment world. After last year’s hosting controversy and last-minute replacement, I can only imagine Zadan and Meron are hoping for a boring run-up to an entertainingly funny show.
