Marvel is not content to rest on its laurels after the massive success that was The Avengers and the so-called Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Indeed, plans for Phase Two have already been put into place, with Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 and Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World already in post-production, Captain America: The Winter Soldier already in preproduction, and plans officially announced for The Guardians of the Galaxy. Indeed, director James Gunn has already gotten his hands on his first star. Chris Pratt will be playing Star Lord in the upcoming Marvel movie.
Chris Pratt is best known as Andy from the Amy Poehler sitcom Parks and Recreation on NBC, but he’s also been in a great deal of films as of late, including Zero Dark 30. However, he’s never been a leading man, and he’s known mostly for his comedy films. Then again, James Gunn’s movies have a strong element of comedy, from Dawn of the Dead to Slither and Super. Of course, Super is already a superhero-ish film, albeit one grounded in reality, and Slither is normal people taking on a menace from outer space. If you combine the two, then I guess you’ve got yourself the potential for a great Guardians of the Galaxy film.
