The cell phone is both the scourge of modern life and the best thing to happen to the modern world. Cell phones make life so much easier, but they’re also really obnoxious in public places. That’s why some places discourage cell phone use, and in a lot of coffee shops, if you approach the counter with your phone in hand, they’ll skip you until you hang up and order. (There are even laws in some states preventing cell phone use at the pharmacy counter.) However, one woman claims she got banned by her gym for using her cell phone.
Tina Santoro Asmar was on the elliptical at Planet Fitness when she claims she got a call from her doctor. Rather than hop off the machine, she took the call. Apparently this is against club policy. When the manager confronted her about her violation of policy, that’s when the adventure started. The gym maintains that she got belligerent and angry, while she says the manager was so threatening it scared her. The end result is that Ms. Asmar is now without a gym membership.
“This is a member that’s had repeated issues and incidents with cell phone use,” said Brian Kablik, the gym’s co-owner, told The Boston Herald. “I can assure you that our manager would not be treating a member poorly. Her reaction, when she was approached in a professional way, was extremely unprofessional and rude and dismissive.”
I guess that’s better than being banned for sweating too much while exercising, but not by much.
