For 14 years, Venezula was the private playground of popular president Hugo Chavez. He postured and preened, rattling his anti-US saber, and maintained a great deal of popularity among his constituents and country for his efforts. He reached out to all of South America’s communist, proto-socialist, and anti-US elements, particularly the Castro family of Cuba, and was always there when someone needed to complain about something bad the United States has done. Now, that’s all over. Hugo Chavez is dead at age 58 via complications from his latest bout with cancer.
Chavez is expected to be replaced by his vice president, Nicolas Maduro. True to form, Maduro is already blaming the United States for Chavez’s death. Despite El Commandante Chavez was entering the toughest phase of treatment and has been having health problems the entire time, Maduro maintains that the United States somehow injected Chavez with cancer in an attempt to silence a critic.
Said Maduro, “The old enemies of our fatherland looked for a way to harm his health.”
Spoken like a true Chavez disciple.
