It seems like ages since he was announced, and it seemed to take him forever to get here, but the Royal Wedding has yielded an adorable Royal Baby boy. Now a day after his public debut, we’re finally getting an official announcement of his name. The Royal Baby’s full name is His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge. True to their royal status, Prince George doesn’t have a last name, much like his father and Grandfather and all the royal line. William’s legal name and title chain is His Royal Highness Prince William Arthur Philip Louis, Duke of Cambridge.
However, while he may not have a last name, he’s got strong middle class roots. His mother’s side of the family isn’t a noble house, they’re party planners who somehow turned themselves into millionaires after starting from lower-middle-class roots. It’s definitely a self-made success story, and one that hopefully will make the newest Prince more down-to-earth and accessible to the normal rank-and-file Briton, even if he is royalty and worth tens of millions of dollars. Maybe he’ll even be normal enough to reverse the curse of the name George, favored by both mad kings and unrepentant playboys the world over.
“William’s childhood was normal by upper-middle-class standards — private schools, expensive holidays, McDonald’s in a smart part of town as opposed to a grotty part of town,” said royal historian Robert Lacey. “I think really one is going to see more of the same.” He adds that the new Prince had, “a grandfather who started off dispatching aircraft from Heathrow Airport and a grandmother who started out as a flight attendant and grew up on a council estate, who came from coal-mining stock in Durham. That is all funneling through.”
Sadly for him, it looks like little HRH Georgie has his father’s hairline.
