Dick Van Dyke recovering after being pulled from his flaming Jaguar.
Jaguars are really great-looking cars. After all, it’s literally a car fit for a queen, so it’s no surprise American royalty like Dick Van Dyke would drive a Jaguar. Unfortunately for the comedy legend, Jaguars aren’t always the most reliable of machine. From the electrical systems problems that plagued them throughout the 60’s, Jags are still finicky automobiles and replacement parts aren’t cheap, either. Dick Van Dyke’s going to find that out the hard way. Dick Van Dyke had to be pulled from the wreckage after his car caught fire on a Los Angeles highway.
The 87-year-old Van Dyke was rescued by passer-by Jason Pennington, who saw the burning car on the side of the road and noticed an elderly man hunched over the wheel as the car began to fill with smoke. Pennington jumped to the man’s rescue, freeing him from the burning car. Shortly thereafter, the car burst into flames and firefighters had to rush to the scene to extinguish the flames, which closed the highway. Fortunately, Dick Van Dyke seems to be okay. He was a little disoriented by the experience, but he did not receive medical treatment and, after a brief recovery, was seen chatting with firefighters while waiting for his wife, 41-year-old Arlene, to pick him up.
After the incident, Van Dyke tweeted the following: “Used Jag for sale REAL CHEAP!!”
