When Warner Brothers announced their still-untitled Batman/Superman movie in sort of a build up to a Justice League movie, fans were understandably nervous. After all, Christian Bale has said time and time again he’s done with Batman, unless Christopher Nolan wins him over with an awesome fourth script. Since Christopher Nolan is only working as a producer on what we’ll call World’s Finest, and the heavy lifting will be done by Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and DC movie universe unofficial official writer David S. Goyer, it seemed unlikely that Bale would resume growling beneath the cowl. Fortunately, they have an Oscar-winning replacement handy. Ben Affleck will be taking over as Batman.
Honestly, I like Ben Affleck as an actor–I always have–and while he’s not typically great, he’s usually good enough, and I think that being good enough will work in his favor as Batman. He (hopefully) won’t try to do any crazy Batvoices, and he’ll be an acceptable middle-aged Bruce Wayne. However, it’d be better for me if he directed World’s Finest, rather than starred in it. After all, he did win Best Picture for Argo while also starring in the film and he shared a writing Oscar with Matt Damon. I think if anyone can do Batman justice while delivering an AWESOME World’s Finest movie, it’d be Bfleck. Though I think if he does do it, he should write, direct, and star. May as well do it all if you’re going to do it right.
Then, one day, Ben Affleck can fulfill his true destiny by playing Boris Yeltsin.
