Freshman Congresswoman Grace Meng is now sans purse.
Grace Meng should be a streetwise woman. Sure, she’s a member of Congress, but she’s also from Queens, New York, so you think she’d know her way around tough streets. After having dinner with a friend and while walking back to her apartment, Meng found herself the victim of a smash-and-grab robbery in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, except the smashing was her head (hit from behind of course) and the grabbing was her purse. Congresswoman Grace Meng was hit on the head and mugged in Washington.
“They came from behind. I didn’t see anyone,” said Meng, who was given a CAT scan at George Washington University Hospital. “I have not — you know, I’m from New York City and I have not been mugged like that.”
I’m not sure how these people are getting mugged, but political figures turn out to be pretty easy to rob. I mean, the mayor of Sacramento was robbed while on an official visit, and now even the members of Congress aren’t safe. It’s just a shame that there aren’t groups of ninjas around to stop crime and prevent everyone from getting mugged everywhere. I know Washington D.C. is a bad area to live in, but you’d think that someone in Congress wouldn’t go to the sorts of places where muggers hang out, but I guess crime happens everywhere.
