When it comes to video games, there’s the Call of Duty games, and then there’s everything else. For whatever reason, Call of Duty has struck a chord with fans and, no matter what might be added or where the series might end up, gamers keep lining up to do more shooting and running and shooting again in the game’s fast-paced first-person-shooter environments. Call of Duty: Black Ops broke sales records upon its release. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 made a BILLION dollars. And now, during the next generation of video game systems, the next generation of Call of Duty continues to rake in the cash. Call of Duty: Ghosts is the top-selling game on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
“Around the globe, Call of Duty: Ghosts is leading the next generation,” crowed Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg. “It’s the number one selling title at key retailers and it’s also the most played game on Xbox One and PS4 globally. As we’ve said before, we’ve got the best community of fans in the world, and we’re thrilled they’re coming with us to the next generation.”
To be the best-selling game on one system is impressive, but to dominate on two systems at the same time is something else entirely. Even if the gameplay is fundamentally the same every time, there’s something bringing players back, and that something is probably multi-player and team matches. Nothing like a good online gaming session, I guess!
