Marvel’s weirdest movie is on its way, and it looks as though the company has decided not to downplay the strangeness of its strangest property, but to emphasize it.  With its grittier, street-level heroes already on firm ground, Marvel has decided to let space get as weird as possible, by giving James Gunn $100 million and letting him turn out a crazy space movie featuring walking trees and raccoons firing guns that are roughly the same size as said gun-firing raccoon.  EW has the complete breakdown of the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, and it’s as epic as it looks.  The trailer made its debut last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and now it’s here, ready for you to gaze upon it with wonder and mirth.

Chris Pratt plays Star-Lord, AKA Peter Quill, a human astronaut and general rogue.  Zoe Saldana plays Gamora, the most dangerous woman in the galaxy.  WWE wrestler Dave Batista plays Drax the Destroyer.  Vin Diesel plays Groot via motion capture, and Bradley Cooper provides the voice of everyone’s favorite, Rocket Raccoon.  Along for the ride are Benicio Del Toro reprising his role as the Collector, John C. Reilly and Peter Serafinowicz play a pair of Nova Corps functionaries, Djimon Hounsou is there in the very beginning to express incredulity at Star-Lord’s nickname, and… yeah, this movie is loaded down with awesome character actors, and I could not be any more excited about it than I am right now.  I already am looking for a Rocket Raccoon plush.
