Once upon a time, attitude was everything. The wilder your commercials, the bolder your flavors, the more people liked you. Consider it an anti-Guy Fieri. One of the best examples of this came from the stodgy old minds at Coca-Cola, with their secret recipe and sacred formula. Their entry into the x-treem citrus drink market was a little thing called Surge, the radioactive green soda in a matching radioactive green can, and it was delicious. There’s been a growing movement to bring it back, and it appears like Atlanta-based Coca-Cola has bowed to fan pressure. Coca-Cola is bringing back Surge for online ordering via Amazon. That’s right, you too can taste the awesome of Surge once again, if you’re willing to pay; Amazon is the online test market for Surge sales, according to Coke.

“This will be a great learning experience for us and a refreshing opportunity for fans,” said Coca-Cola’s Wendy Clark, president of Sparkling & Strategic Marketing. “Future plans for the brand will depend on the excitement exhibited by fans across the country.”
For those of you that didn’t grow up in the 90’s, or who didn’t drink a lot of soda, Surge was Coca-Cola’s attempt to knock Mountain Dew off its pedestal, since the king is distracted by breakfast drinks. PepsiCo’s Mountain Dew controls about 85% of the citrus soda drink market, and is the go-to drink for college kids around the world who need a dose of delicious sugar and caffeine in a can. Now a little piece of 90’s nostalgia is back, with the bright green can and the red sunburst and, hopefully, that same awesome taste. Now if we could just get someone to bring back Jolt, the soda with double caffeine, I’d be in business.
