The Hulkbuster armor, to go from Hulk Smash to Hulk Smashed.

When the first movie makes over a billion dollars and becomes a worldwide sensation, the wait for the second movie is pretty intense, and fans want to know what they want to know no matter what the movie studio has planned.  Marvel was planning on debuting the trailer for the second chapter in the Avengers saga during next week’s episode of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD on ABC.  However, the trailer leaked early, so Marvel adapted.  They came up with a Plan B, and that was to just let the trailer into the wild early.  The trailer for Avengers:  Age of Ultron debuted last night at just after 9:30 and blew minds all over the Internet.  Behold, puny mortals!

Not only do we see our familiar friends, like Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye, we also see some new wrinkles.  Namely, the Hulk gets in a scrap with Tony Stark, and Tony is wearing his fan-favorite Hulkbuster armor.  So that’s cool.  Even cooler, however, is the first appearance of James Spader as the villainous Ultron (where Age of Ultron gets its name).  Talk about sheer brilliance.  All it took was an appearance on The Office to get Spader on The Blacklist, and that has gotten Spader a plum gig as an awesome-sounding killer robot monster.

With potential appearances by the Guardians of the Galaxy crew and Joss Whedon back behind the camera, I could not be more excited for Avengers:  Age of Ultron.  If it’s not the greatest comic book movie ever, I’ll be surprised.  Even if it’s not great, if Joss and pals can match James Gunn and Rocket Raccoon, I’ll be pleased.
