There have been a lot of false starts when it comes to the renewal of the Star Wars franchise by current owners Disney.  Every rumor was different:  Yoda was going to get the first movie, there was going to be a Boba Fett TV series, they were all going to be in 3D, blah blah blah.  Lots of talk, very little action until JJ Abrams took over and began to shape his vision of the Star Wars universe.  It’s pretty exciting stuff given how well he rebooted Star Trek (at least the first one) and the first glimpses of our new Star Wars overlord’s work look amazing.  Feast your eyes, my hungry children.  Here’s the first trailer for Star Wars:  The Force Awakens.

Of course, it’s not a trailer, it’s a teaser trailer, and what a successful tease it is.  Just little glimpses of our familiar Star Wars universe, but with what is clearly going to be a new twist.  It’s exciting stuff, and it’s the kind of thing that JJ Abrams does so well when it comes to being a visual director.  We can discuss his writing choices later, but man, he knows how to make stuff look cool, and those X-Wing fighters zooming along that lake is just… whew, I think I need a cold drink and a place to lie down.
