No matter how secure the border, there’s always a way around it. When it comes to the US/Mexico border, not the world’s most secure crossing, there are many ways to circumvent it when you want to sneak contraband from one country to the next. Be it people or drugs, there’s always a way to get into the United States if you really want to, and people really want to get drugs across the border. As it turns out, drones just might be the answer. Far more than just mobile mistletoe platforms, drones are increasingly being used to deliver things, but the delivery isn’t perfect. A drone carrying six pounds of methamphetamine crashed in the parking lot of a Tijuana grocery store, not far from the San Ysidro border crossing into California.
The drone was a six engine model being controlled by remote control. Apparently, the six packets of meth must have interfered with the flying capabilities, or the person controlling the drone just made a mistake. Either way, the drone and its white stimulant cargo came to a crashing halt well before its final destination of… well, anywhere in the United States, I guess. Tijuana police say that drug runners are increasingly turning to drones, rather than more expensive methods like submarines or drug tunnels, to move their product.
