All good things must come to an end. With Stephen Colbert leaving his Colbert Report for the greener pastures of network television’s late-night chat game, it was only a matter of time before the other guy decided to test the waters elsewhere, too. Jon Stewart is leaving The Daily Show after a staggering 17 year run as the guy behind the fake news desk. That means The Daily Show will be looking for another new host… I think Craig Kilborne is available again, so maybe it’s time to bring back the original Daily Show desk weight!
Stewart opened his remarks by saying “17 years is the longest I have ever in my life held a job, by 16 years and five months.” He added. “This show doesn’t deserve an even slightly restless host, and neither do you.”
Stewart has been a restless host. After all, he took 12 weeks off to direct a movie, so he’s been looking at other things for awhile. I guess now is the time. Once Larry Wilmore’s show gets on its feet, a new, fresh voice on the Daily Show might be just the thing.
