Gas prices don’t usually go down. They go up. Gas prices rose for decades, sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly, but always up on a long enough timeline. Not long ago, $4 a gallon for gas was a very real proposition. Nobody thought prices would go in the other direction, and yet… gas prices are going down all throughout the world due to an increased gas supply and lowered demand due to more fuel-efficient cars. A gas price war at two stations drove unleaded prices down to 77 cents a gallon!
The war, between competing Marathon and Bacon and Bridge Market (B&B Market) stations was so wildly popular that traffic backed up onto nearby highways. Indeed, local police were forced to turn some drivers away from the temporary price drop. Sadly, if you weren’t in Houghton Lake last night, you missed out. Gas prices at both stations were a more reasonable $1.46 as of this morning. Still, for the lucky people who were able to get there and get topped off, they got a GREAT deal.
Will gas prices ever get that low everywhere? Hard to say. If only for my own pocketbook, I hope so, and I hope I can get a 55 gallon for gas storage before then.
