Since 2014, Craig Sager has been caught in the fight of his life. He’s been battling leukemia since 2014, and he’s had multiple stem-cell treatments and rounds of radiation, and he continues to struggle against the disease for all he’s worth. He’s been a very public face for most of his life, and now he’s engaged in a very public fight against a very brutal disease. He even had to cancel his first chance to cover Olympic basketball in Rio, though he’s been working when he can. Now, a lifelong basketball figure is getting an appropriate tribute. Nike has made a pair of custom Craig Sager sneakers in his customary ridiculous patterns.
The shoes are a great mishmash of plaids and stripes and colors, as befitting the man who is as famous for his terrible suits as he is for being an NBA courtside reporter. The sneakers are Jordan 1s, and only two pairs of the Sager Vision shoes were made, one for Sager and one for sneakerhead DJ Khaled, who shared the pictures on Instagram.
“To everybody out there, we are making progress — incredible progress. We are going to find a cure for cancer,” said Sager at the ESPYs when he accepted the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance
