Just when you thought it was safe for the people of Japan to return to a little bit of normalcy, there’s still something to be worried about besides the meltdown of their nuclear power plants. The hard-hit northern region of Japan was rocked by another earthquake overnight, a 7.1 magnitude aftershock that has once again caused Japanese authorities to issue a tsunami warning for a region that doesn’t need anymore earthquakes or tsunamis at the moment.
Normally, I’m not a terribly sympathetic person. Yes, I’ll feel bad and maybe even donate a few bucks to disaster relief funds, but in the case of Japan? Man, I feel awful for those poor people. The ones that survived the initial earthquake and the massive tsunami have been living under the specter of impending nuclear disaster for a month, and if that wasn’t bad enough, they’ve been getting buffeted by massive aftershocks, all of which come with the chance of yet another killer wave sweeping through the deserted countryside and carrying off even more people.
If ever a country needed help, it’s Japan. Thousands of people are missing or dead there, and it’s probably going to get worse before it gets better. If you can do something to help the relief efforts, with money or food or whatever, it’d be awesome of you to do so.
