When Bucky Turco was traveling through New York’s LaGuardia Airport, he saw something that nobody wants to see. On his way to the departure gate for his Frontier Airlines flight to Denver, he passed a Transportation Security Administration officer slumped in a chair, sawing logs. He instantly got out his cell phone and snapped a picture of the woman, who arose 10 minutes later when the loading for the flight to Denver was announced. Since that time, Officer Sleepy has landed a nice desk job (and pillow).
In no way am I implying this woman is doing anything wrong. From the way the story is related in the article, it looks like to me she was just taking a nap on her break. That’s fine; I do that all the time, but I don’t sleep at my desk. Given that she’s airport security, she’s probably not filling travelers with confidence by dozing off somewhere public. That agency has worlds of public relations problems already, and this kind of thing only adds to the public perception that TSA agents are like mall cops but less competent and more lazy.
