Have you ever had an argument with a member of the opposite sex and you found yourself saying, “If you only saw my side of the story… you’d understand.” Well, turns out a difference in opinion is the only thing that differs between men and women’s viewpoints.
When it comes to imagining and predicting future events, men and women, regardless of their different perspectives on the situation, use the same section of the brain when processing and developing these opinions.
Two Harvard cognitive scientists asked men and women to perform a series of mental exercises while they were in an functional MRI brain scanner. They had to remember a previous event, and then imagine a future event in detail.
The results found that although the perspective men and women had were very different from each other, both used the same part of their brain to imagine these events. What the scientists did not expect to find was that the Hippocampus, which is primarily been associated with a person’s memory, was heavily relied upon by both genders.
All things being equal, the future is up to you to interpret.
