As the 2008 election process looms overhead, politicians are gearing up to spend a record-breaking amount on TV advertising this time. How much, you ask? Somewhere in the ballpark of $3 billion… That’s almost twice as much as 2004. Granted, this is a projected spending range and it could be less. But it could be more! Either way, you’ve got to wonder what they are spending all that money on talking about.
Candidates are talking about everything from telecommunications reform to (surprise surprise) the Iraq war. In fact $270 million has been spent so far advocating certain issues. And that’s just on the national level!
Let’s not forget that back home in Smalltown, USA politicians (and hopefuls) are spending cash too. TV is a popular medium, after all.
So who is spending the most money anyway? In terms of the Presidency, Mitt Romney takes the cake with over $8.5 million. Compare that to Sen. Obama who has spent $2,348,233 as of October 9. Is it crazy to think that these two guys have collectively aired almost 15,000 commercials to date?
Now let’s see the some increases in Internet advertising.
