Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as the old saying goes. Is it the long stem of a rose filled with thorns, exquisite yet dangerous to a degree? Is is the sleek lines of an expensive
automobile or the smile on a child’s face laughing at Christmas?
For some of us geeks, it’s architecture like this from Deputy Dog’s blog which shows beauty and intrigue within the steel beams shrouded in discovering knowledge.
Research facilities are spotlighted in the story, which shows intricate designs that appear to come out of a sci-fi picture from the 1950s. The picture to the left is from Gifu, Japan that is considered the “largest superconducting stellarator in the world.” And it is designed to generate magnetic coils that could hold in 100 million degrees.
The designs are unique and functional as scientists have developed the structures in an attempt to understand the world around us but there is a unique beauty to the photos from the stellarator to an observatory that appeared in a cameo in a James Bond film. Visit the link to find out with one.
