While greasy, grimy gopher guts from the children’s song didn’t make the cut, several meals from some of the most popular restaurant chains scattered across the nation are on the list of the (cue up the dramatic chipmunk’s theme song) Worst Foods in America.
I’m sure there are several restaurants in your neighborhood that cooked their way into the infamous top 20. Check out the list. It’s broken down by entree types and menu courses.
I love to eat out and usually I don’t make the wisest culinary choices when it comes to my health, but seeing a few of the caloric monstrosities on this top 20 list caused me to rethink my ordering ways.
Some climbing their grease-soaked way to the top of the list should come as no surprise, while others in the queue are deceiving in both name and contents.
Sure, some of these are obvious choices. These are the ones that are deep fried or smothered in cheese — or both — and the finger foods that come with the delectable dastardly dipping sauces crammed full of artery-clogging fat. When you order items like these, even if you are sharing them with everyone gathered around the table, you know you’re kicking your diet to the curb for the evening.
However, it’s the meal choices that use names that trigger our mind to think they are healthy that must be pointed out.
Just because you see the word salad on the menu, don’t bet on it being the top option for the diner trying to maintain his or her waistline. Another tricky one on the list has turkey as its main ingredient. The number of fat grams piling up in some of these selections is enough to make the national debt look like pocket change.
And of course, for those among us who like a challenge, try eating your way through from No. 20 up to No. 1 without having a heart attack along the way.
