March is finally here, and even though it’s still snowing in some places or cold enough to need to defrost your windshield in the morning, it’s time to start getting ready for spring.
And what better way to get ready than to do some spring cleaning and get your garden lookin’ fresh at the same time! Furthermore, who doesn’t want to save money and the earth at the same time?
The self-proclaimed “useful and unusual” blog The Life Hackery recently posted a fun list called “7 More Garbage Gardening Tips,” which explains ways to use common household refuse to brighten up your yard or garden.
Got any old or cracked CD cases lying around? Turn them into a miniature greenhouse for seedling plants! Use fruit leftovers or waste, including the top of a pineapple, to grow new plants in your garden rather than going to Home Depot and dropping 50 bucks.
Speaking of Home Depot, if you’re almost done with other home improvement projects and there’s some lumber or old wood lying around, the article can teach you how to use those planks to build yourself a tiered or raised garden. And don’t throw away that old birdbath! Convert it into a planter instead.
