We all get a lot of email every day, and if you don’t check it for a few days, it can definitely start to pile up on you. If you use email at your workplace, a lot of times you’ll find yourself buried under important things that must be read and responded to, or at least acknowledged. Here are 5 strategies, with associated browser plug-ins and software tools, for slogging through the email backwash without being permanently connected to your inbox.
I tend to respond to emails immediately during the course of the day, but after I go home from work I may not respond to anything. Usually, it’s because I’m asleep. If I’m there and messing with email, I make sure I get my emails taken care of while I’m in there. If it needs a response, I respond. If it’s just a forwarded joke, it gets eyeballed and deleted (usually just deleted).
If you don’t let it pile up too much (and you have little email to bother with), it won’t get on top of you. For those unfamiliar with email (all two of you), check out the Wikipedia entry where I got that awesome image from.
