14 Tips for American Road Trips

Posted 3/24/2008 7:14 am by AJ Star and Andrew Sorcini

hwy.JPGEither you had a spring break and it’s now just a memory or your spring break was the lunch you took on the first day of the season.

Whatever the case, everyone’s starting to look towards those wonderful summer months. Even the pages on the calendar seem to be filled with possibilities.

Sunshine, warmth, a relaxing vacation–they’re right ahead. But a beach resort in Cancun seems so last summer. The answer to your vacation-idealessness: a road trip.

Despite the rise in gasoline prices (again), this tradition is a great American past time. There’s so much of our own country people never see because we are all more intrigued by the idea of going outside of our borders to find the exotic.

In the event that national parks and country fairs spark your interest, let Wellington Grey’s article “14 Suggestions for Taking an American Road Trip” be your guide. The author of his eponymous website and blog has put together a list of helpful tips that he gleaned from his own experiences when taking his 10,255 mile trip last year.

Grey recommends taking a GPS system to eliminate the need to argue over maps with road trip partners, which in turns cuts down on the stress of the trip as a whole. Grey also suggests investing in a National Park Pass to save money on entry fees and always stocking your car with food and water.

For more tips to plan your road trip, read the full article here.

Posted 3/19/2010 9:30 am by Ron Hogan

For years, neighbors in the Foothills Community neighborhood have had problems with how Catharine and Robert Pierce live.  The pair are routinely seen outside of their home wearing only thong underwear, but when Catharine did a little topless gardening, that’s when the law finally got involved.  After multiple complaints to condo organization Boulder Housing Partners, […]

Viacom Versus YouTube In Copyright Brawl

Posted 3/19/2010 8:30 am by Ron Hogan

The world of copyright lawsuits is a messy and often stupid one.  One company sues another company over a copyright of something that may or may not be valid.  In the case of Google’s YouTube versus Viacom, the company itself might be at fault.  Viacom says YouTube is “a rogue enabler of content theft.”  However, […]

As often as three times a week, Rose and Walter Martin are greeted at their front door by cops brandishing guns.  Far from criminal masterminds, the innocent 80-something couple are upstanding citizens who are the victims of a mistake in the NYPD’s computer system.  Apparently when the department put in a new system in 2002, […]

The Secret To A Real Invisibility Cloak

Posted 3/19/2010 7:00 am by Ron Hogan

The theory behind invisibility has been long known by scientists.  They’ve even managed to do it before now on two dimensional objects.  However, they’ve never been able to do it in three dimensions, until a team from Germany’s Karlsruhe Institute of Technology managed to crack the key.  The team, lead by Tolga Ergin, developed a […]

I thought I was the only one bemused by the Census 2010 ad campaign.  There’s been a constant bombardment of ads of all types reminding me that in a few weeks I’ll be getting a big piece of paper in the mail from the US Census Bureau, and that they want all my identifying information.  […]

There’s a fundamental difference between food that is weird because of its shape or its combination of contents, and food that is weird because of what it simply is.  Pepsi AM is strange, but not as strange or troubling as, say, horse meat ice cream.  Horse is a delicacy in Japan, but that is only […]
