Marriage is an odd and wonderful thing, I hear. You find love and then try to stay in love. There is companionship. Hard times, good times and a journey of epic proportions in the personal lives of those who embark on the road of sharing your life with someone else.

Or, in this case, some thing else.

Meet Eija-Riitta Berliner-Mauer, who believes that she is married to the Berlin Wall. Berliner-Mauer is, of course, German for Berlin Wall.  Apparently the marriage happened in 1979 and they’ve been in love ever since. Berliner-Mauer is an object-sexualist, which basically means that she believes inanimate objects have souls and feelings.

A recent movie of this unusual relationship has just hit the circuit and according to reviews, Berliner-Mauer is serious about her “husband” who she says is retired. She explains her love of the Berlin Wall here as well as defines her role as an object-sexualist.

The happy couple will be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary in 2009.
