The sticky note has been regarded as quite the office supply innovation for nearly four decades. No business can survive without them. Walking through aisles of cubicles at companies around the world, you’ll find computer monitors, books and bulletin boards covered in sticky notes.
For years, a sticky note makeover consisted of the notes being lined rather than simply blank. Then they started being made in different sizes, different colors and even different shapes–hearts, flowers, stars! It’s been a crazy ride for the sticky note. But it’s about to get crazier.
According to Britain’s online newspaper Telegraph, inventor Lyndsay Williams has come up with an “intelligent” version of the sticky note that she calls the Ixp-note.
Stickies aren’t just for jotting down phone messages anymore. With just the touch of a finger, the Ixp-note acts as an alarm clock with a beep sounding off as the deadline that you set for the task written on each note draws to a close.
The notes reportedly use “low-cost electronic circuit printing technology” along with thermo-chromic ink to make themselves useful as memory-jogging tools.
Williams originally engineered the notes to help people with severe memory loss including Alzheimer’s patients, but quickly saw the benefits outside of this smaller demographic. Although no official date is set, Williams hopes the notes will be available in stores within a year.
