The business world is an incredibly elastic one. When you’re dealing with franchised restaurants, like Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, you can’t make a blanket statement like, “Krispy Kreme is doing great business.” After all, while franchisees in China might be closing down, franchisees in Richmond, Virginia are taking the doughnut world into the realm of home and office delivery. This is a great idea.
For years, I’ve wondered why places not pizza or Chinese don’t deliver. I know for awhile KFC in my area delivered, but they stopped doing it. If I could, say, get beer delivered to my house, or get groceries delivered, I think I would do it. I’m sure plenty of other people would get delivered other food, too. This delivery Krispy Kreme, even on orders over 3 dozen in size, is the start of a genius marketing idea.
You always need to try new things. When you’re working so closely with businesses, as the average doughnut place is, why not give them the chance to order for delivery? I know in my workplace, at least twice a month someone brings in dozens of doughnuts for the various departments. Tack on $1.50 or so for a delivery fee and I think you’ve got yourself a good model for delivery. Who doesn’t love doughnuts, and who doesn’t love to have stuff delivered (especially in the mornings!). Just don’t put any creepy kids in your ads.
