There have been some odd copycat criminals before, but none quite like this. Taking a page from the Pokémon series of video games and cartoons, a middle aged, bearded man dressed like a member of Pokémon villains Team Rocket attacked the New York launch party for Pokémon Platinum at the Nintendo World Store in Times Square. His attack was not to catch all the Pokémon but to destroy them using a hacked Mystery Gift and the Nintendo DS built in Wi-Fi.
I just don’t understand what would possess someone to do something like this. What would you have to gain for corrupting the files of a bunch of video games generally played by a bunch of kids? If you can’t get any money out of it, and it doesn’t take any particular skill (as this wouldn’t since all he did was broadcast the signal to invite others to download), why would you do it?
Obviously this is all some Sony ploy. By attacking the Pokémon, they’re attacking Nintendo’s dominance in the hand-held gaming market. Gotta catch ‘em all? More like, gotta trash ‘em all!
