If you’ve read PopFi for awhile, you know by now I’m a huge fan of voiceover guys. From Don LaFontaine to Vin Scully, I’ve always admired a guy who can convey so much with only the way he speaks a few words. I’ve always kind of wanted to go to broadcasting school and get involved in the radio or television broadcasts. One of my personal favorites, Philadelphia Phillies and NFL Films broadcaster Harry Kalas, passed away today at age 73.
It’s sad news when anyone passes away unexpectedly, but at least Harry got to do what he loved right until the end. In fact, just today he was preparing to broadcast the game between the Phillies and the Washington Nationals. He spent 39 seasons behind the mic for Philadelphia, and had worked for the NFL since 1975. To live your dream for that long is amazing. We should all be so lucky.
