ESPN normally caters to sports fans. While plenty of women watch sports, most sports fans are men ages birth-death. It’s a pretty sizable demographic that enables ESPN to do really well, even in a recession. That doesn’t mean they’re going to sit on their audience and not try to expand, though. Yesterday, ESPN’s website took on a new demographic, girls ages 2-8, as it became ESPN Unicorn. It also changed the headlines from white to hot pink Comic Sans, AKA the worst font in the known world.
Unfortunately for me, ESPN was really quick to correct this hack. An hour after the news broke, I was on ESPN.com frantically trying to enter the Konami Code to get some magical unicorn action in place of NASCAR news, but it wasn’t happening. Even the cached page didn’t work for me, which is a shame because nobody loves creative hackers more than I do. Granted, it wasn’t zombies this time, but it was still pretty funny.
