NASA’s LCROSS mission set off a firestorm.  After all, we were basically bombing the moon.  While the mission itself didn’t produce any awesome display of moon pyrotechnics, it did set off one of the funniest Internet memes since the LOLCat, and it all involves Twitter.  Ladies and gentlemen, we are at war with the moon.  You can follow the war coverage on Twitter by watching for the hashtag #AtWarWithTheMoon.

I have to say, I love where this is going.  The list of lunar warfare tweets at io9 is just sheer briliance, as are the comments. It’s just a shame that I’ll have to postpone my long-awaited trip to the moon until after the hostilities are over and the Moon becomes the 51st state, which I like to call Moonsylvania.  Extremely North Dakota also works.
