One of the more obnoxious features of Facebook is the “poke” button that allows you to annoy your friends (or complete strangers) with the push of a button.  It drives me nuts that people use it, but since it’s part of Facebook, you learn to accept it.  However, if you’ve got a restraining order against you, think twice before you poke, because you could end up in jail for it.

Shannon Jackson of Hendersonville, Tennessee, poked someone on Facebook, which violates an order of protection the poked person had out on Shannon.  Now the 36-year-old faces penalties up to 12 months in jail and a $2500-dollar fine.  The standard order of protection commands that there be no contact whatsoever between the two parties, and apparently to judges, poking is communication and violates the order.

I’m sure the fact that it was a Facebook poke has nothing to do with the potential sentence, but the fact that it was contact.  When someone says no contact, that means no contact at all.  No pokes, no Tweets, and definitely no flyover declarations of love.
