How much would you pay for a piece of history? That’s what Leslie Hindman Auctioneers wants to know, as they’re selling off deceased Tankers Fan Club president Gary Pepper’s serious collection of Elvis memorabilia. The crown jewel of the collection? Supposedly-genuine locks of Elvis’s trademark hair that got shaved off when he joined the Army. The odd collectible is expected to sell for between $8,000 and $12,000!
I don’t see why anyone would pay $12,000 for a dead guy’s hair. It might not even be hair belonging to Elvis, as nobody has done DNA testing on it to determine authenticity, just consulted “an expert in celebrity hair authentication.” If I’m going to pay that much for some old hair, it’d better belong to Elvis, and I’d better be able to clone it and make an army of Elvii.
The only person I’d trust to identify Elvis’s hair is his barber. Tthen I’d ask that barber to give me a haircut and shave, because Elvis always had a great head of hair and I love those big mutton-chop sideburns.
