Of all the dangerous stuff we use every day, among the most dangerous pieces of equipment in the house is the stuff we use to clean.  From the detergents that can be dangerous if swallowed to the very machines themselves, there’s nothing quite as potentially dangerous as the washer and dryer in your laundry room.  That’s what the mother of a 4-year-old boy found out when her son’s arm got ripped off by their washing machine.  Guess that’s why they call it a laundry mangle.

Of course, she only found that out the morning after it happened, because after getting his arm torn off her son wrapped his bleeding stump in a towel and went to bed.  The 4-year-old was playing with his 11-year-old brother near an exposed washing machine and, as kids do, someone pushed a button.  Next thing you know, the little one’s missing an arm and his brother’s helping him bandage his nub while putting the other arm in the freezer.

It was too late to reattach it, but the boys are lucky to be alive:  the 4-year-old from blood loss, and the 11-year-old from his mom not killing him.  How this kid slept through the night with his arm off I’ll never understand.  I can’t even sleep well when I’ve got a head cold!
