It’s one of the more unusual holiday events. Black Friday, that orgy of predawn openings, door-buster sales, big deals, and consumerism, is the official launch of the holiday shopping season and is routinely one of the biggest sales days a store will see all year. Have you ever wondered how this unique holiday tradition got started? Well, if you have, Mental Floss has the history of Black Friday.
I’m normally not a Black Friday participant. I’m not good in crowds, and I’m definitely not good at waking up at 3 AM just to go shopping. However, if you are looking to get a good head start on all the deals you want this holiday season, there are a couple of websites I like: Black Friday Ads and Black Friday@GottaDeal. Both those resources are excellent sources for leaked Black Friday and Cyber Monday (the online version of Black Friday) deals.
Honestly? People who get out there for Black Friday are nuts. If you’re not trying to get this year’s fad toy, they’d have to give the flat-screen TVs away for me to bother going out for that stuff. It’s just not worth it to me. I’ll just pay a few dollars more and keep my limbs/dignity, thanks.
