It’s got to be hard growing up Jewish. I mean, you can’t go out on Friday and every December you’re smothered beneath a parade of Christmas images, celebrations, TV specials, and all kinds of other assorted thing. So when Adam Sandler struck off with The Chanukah Song, his celebration of Chanukah and his own Jewish roots way back in 1996, I was as pleased as punch for my Jewish friends to have a holiday song of their own that also happened to be funny.
Now Neil Diamond is taking his swing at the Chanukah Song on his holiday album A Cherry Cherry Christmas, and I have to say that the results are… well, they’re somehow even funnier with Neil Diamond behind the mic strumming his guitar and doing his Neil Diamond thing. It really is the highest of high comedy, and the dirt-cheap South Park-looking video production values only make it so much better.
Check out the video and just try not to have that song stuck in your head all day!
