Residents of a Mount Vernon, Washington neighborhood were shocked to discover that, after a wind storm had knocked down a neighbor’s privacy fence, the neighbor had an unusual collection. She had a bunch of gnomes. You know, those little stone lawn gnomes with the pointy red hats and beards, often seen doing whimsical things in the yards of old ladies? Well, this unnamed woman had 60 garden gnomes, all of them stolen.
Lisa Soneida, the woman’s next-door neighbor, had a fairly normal reaction when she saw the gnome home: “I looked over the fence and I think the first thing I said was: ‘Holy crap!'” Who wouldn’t be shocked when facing down an army of squatty little creepy guys in bad primary-color outfits? Police are now in the process of reuniting the gnomes with their former homes, but it’s a slow process and only a dozen or so have been returned to their rightful gnome-shaped dead spots in the front lawn.
