Shirley Dahlgren and Bonnie Wiles have been friends since high school. Way back in 1977, Dahlgren sent Wiles a birthday card. When it was Shirley’s birthday, Bonnie sent the card back with a new birthday message written on it. Fast forward 32 years, and the two women are still sending the same birthday card they did in 1977, with a few extra pages added onto it since they long since ran out of room on the original card.
I wonder how well the card has held up. I imagine it’s taken quite a beating after having been mailed around so much, but it’s a piece of history those two women will always cherish. That’s one of the bad things about email and ecards; the thought’s nice, but there’s nothing to look back at 10 years later. It makes me wish I was more of the kind to send cards out. Maybe I should start that.
