Nobody likes to spend the holidays with the family. I mean, it’s nice for a little while, but by the time New Year’s Eve rolls around, a lot of people are pretty familied out. I love my family, and I love spending time with them, but it’s just so soon after Christmas for everyone to get together and overeat that I have trouble doing it; I’d rather go out with my friends instead. However, a 35-year-old man in Sicily has an unusual way to avoid the in-laws: getting arrested.
He went to the police station on Thursday, begging to be put in jail. When the cops wouldn’t do it, he went to the tobacco shop next door, stole some gum, and threatened the clerk with a box cutter until the cops had to arrest him. Deliberately getting arrested is a great way to escape the pressures of family life.
